Jurassic Park The Ride - Ride Facts!
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
After five years of pre-production, Universal Studios Hollywood premiered “Jurassic Park – The Ride.”
Costing over $100 million to develop and create. “Jurassic Park – The Ride” is the most technically advanced interactive themed ride in the entertainment history.
What Riders Experience:
Inspired by Steve Spielberg’s Universal Studios film – the most successful motion picture of all time – and Michael Crichton’s best-selling novel, “Jurassic Park – The Ride” begins as guests board tour boats to cruise into the living, breathing three-dimensional world of Jurassic Park.
Here geneticists clone the gigantic prehistoric animals in a miracle of modern bioengineering.
Guests experience up-close encounters with lifelike, mammoth dinosaurs, towering as tall as five-story buildings and moving within inches of their astonished faces.
What begins as a gentle exploration of Jurassic Park’s dinosaur habitat abruptly changes course to unleash an unprecedented series of relentless chocks, scares, and surprises.
Suddenly, guests are ominously stalked by the most vicious and terrifying creature ever to walk the earth – the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
When It Opened:
The celebrated wooden gates of Jurassic Park swung open Summer, 1996
What It Cost:
Over $100 million – the most expensive amusement ride adventure of all time.
When Project Development Began:
November, 1990 – more then three years before release of the film, Jurassic Park.
About The Dinosaurs:
Full-sized and scientifically correct dinosaurs of many species star in the remarkable adventure – the first, striking examples of a new breed of lifelike, 21st century animatronic technology.
The gargantuan Ultrasaurus stands as tall as a five-story building. The armor-plated, 18-foot tall Stegosaurus measures 40 feet, nose to tail.
Moving faster, more fluidly and more realistically then any previous animatronics, these dinosaurs think, and they know you are there, interacting just inches from your face.
How The Dinosaurs Were Created:
Designed and engineered to include newly-discovered principles of hydraulic physics, mechanics and space-age robotics, the “cinemagicians” of Universal Studios Hollywood collaborated for five years with a team of aerospace scientists, paleontologists and robotics engineers to achieve this triumph of animatronic technology.
The Water Plunge Of A Lifetime:
During their Jurassic Park River Adventure, riders survive an 84-foot drop, straight down in pitch darkness, splashing into a lagoon at speeds of nearly 50 miles an hour. It’s the fastest, steepest water-ride drop in amusement ride history.
Length Of Ride:
5.5 minutes
Ride Vehicles:
Sixteen 25-passenger free-floating boats, the largest amusement ride watercraft ever built.
Riders Per Hour:
3,000
Time Interval Between Dispatch Of Each Boat:
30 seconds
Volume Of Water:
1.4 million gallons
Number Of Rider Scenes:
12
Minimum Height To Ride:

Jurassic Park – The Ride The Pre-Show:
Prior to boarding boats for their River Adventure, guests move to shaded, tropical arbors to view an informative multimedia introduction to what they will experience.
The pre-show is presented on massive, high-definition video walls and hosted by John Hammond, owner and creator of Jurassic Park.
(As in the original motion picture, the character is portrayed by the renowned actor-director Sir Richard Attenborough.)
After explaining the concept of the Park, the world’s largest living laboratory devoted to the study of dinosaurs, Hammond introduces key members of the Jurassic Park staff. Each offers more details about the dinosaurs, the intricate process of cloning the prehistoric animals and the extraordinary safety precautions in place.
The pre-show includes Dino Facts, to inform guests about the behavior and lifestyles of the mammoth creatures they will soon meet—up-close and personal.
